As the nights draw in and the festive lights begin to sparkle across the city, East London has plenty on offer this December for residents, families and friends looking to soak up the season. From creative community events to festive theatre and shopping galore, here are three highlights to add to your diary.
Queen Elizabeth Winter Park
1 Dec – 24 Dec 2025
Each evening at 6 pm (and earlier on Christmas Eve), the Park opens a different door for a free surprise — live music, art, sport, workshops, performance and more, all rooted in East London’s communities. Highlights include the BIG Winter Market with over 30 independent stalls, DJs, live music, food & drink, a glowing parade with build your own lantern for Light Up the Season and a community sing-along with surprises for all ages at The Noon Before Christmas.
Hackney Empire – Cinderella

Get into the festive spirit with this lively pantomime production of Cinderella at Hackney Empire. Full of fun, sparkle and audience interaction – classic elements of the beloved British panto tradition. Accessible performances include audio‑described and relaxed sessions – making it a welcoming outing for all families
Old Spitalfields Market – Christmas Shopping & Festive Eats
From 12 Nov (festive village) through Dec 2025
This winter, Spitalfields will become a festive hub brimming with festive cheer. Bishops Square will transform into a pop‑up Christmas village with cozy chalets, seasonal drinks and global street‑food. Visitors can also enjoy a range of family-friendly activities, including festive crafts, a new Gingerbread Hut and live choirs, along with late‑night shopping sessions available on select Wednesdays for those looking to escape the daytime crowd.
